DIY Summer Party Decor

The summer months allow for a lot of time to be spent outside and for parties to be taken outdoors. As I mentioned in a previous post, there are so many great ways to decorate a backyard or any outdoor space for a party, whether its with a simple string of white lights or pretty lanterns hung around the yard. I saw these sweet paper-bag party lights on marthastewart.com and just had to share. Using some white lights and paper bags, you can create some easy and unique decor for you bbq, birthday party, bridal shower and more!

What you'll need:
  • Utility knife
  • Outdoor string lights
  • Gusseted flat-bottom bags, 5 by 9 3/4 inches
  • 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon
  • Masking or paper tape
How to:

1. Use a utility knife to make a slit through both sides of a bag, 2 inches from the top.
2. Open the bag; cut an X in the bottom center. Slip a 2-foot length of ribbon through the slits, and knot it.
3. Push a bulb through the X, so the socket is fully inside. Use masking or paper tape to seal in the wire and socket. Continue until all bulbs are covered.
